Karen S. Wood celebrates 25 years in the purchasing profession and is currently a manager for the Texas Department of Transportation

With 25 years of experience in purchasing, she is currently a purchasing manager for the Texas Department of Transportation. Ms. Wood is responsible for managing 15 employees, handling the procurement of services and technology to small companies as well as multimillion dollar contracts. Her branch provides Texas DOT divisions and regions with the appropriate information technology items and services, ensuring the placement of major contracts. She became involved in her profession through her background in finance, search for a challenging career, and determination to affect bottom lines through purchasing. She attributes her success to her great mentors and staff.

Ms. Wood received a Bachelor of Science in business from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1988. In addition to her formal education, she is a certified public purchasing officer (CPPO), a certified purchasing manager (C.P.M), a certified Texas purchasing manager (CTPM), and a certified Texas contract manager (CTCM).
